Includes travel accounts, 1852, of "Tour [made by wagon] of W[illia]m Fee, Tho[ma]s Simpson, J.C. McFadden, R. Thompson, Caleb Barns, and Smith Kitchin" through North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, recording visits with "Carolina" friends and relatives at various places, attending church and political meetings, with comments on roads, bridges, soil, vegetation, locations of mills and "cotton factories," and ending with the observation that the tour cost thirty-five dollars each. Also contains "Notes & Sketches Of a Confederate Soldier of the War of the Rebel[l]ion" chronicling the organization of a company at Rich Hill, Chester District, S.C.; movements and engagements on the South Carolina coast, Virginia, and Mississippi; Kitchin's capture, 6 Apr. 1865, at Petersburg, Va.; and imprisonment at Newport News, Va, where he was guarded by Negro troops; with a list of 125 men and the fate of each during the war.
